Any able to adjust my burner and draft: Newton, MA

I live in Newton, MA. I have been using Rodenhiser plumbing and heating--I was introduced to them through The Wall. They service my Buderus oil boiler, but they also do gas. They are located in the 495 area, but will extend their service area to Newton.

Anyone able to adjust my burner and draft: Newton, MA

I am a little frustrated. I had an appointment with a pro from this site for 8:30AM today and patiently waited until 9:30 when I finally called and learned that he forgot. We agreed on 1:00PM today, so I left work and waited. I called his cell phone several times with no answer, but got the call waiting beep on occasion, so it was clear that he wasn't answering my calls so I gave up at 2:30PM today.

I cannot find anyone on the find-a-pro listing who will come. I guess the job is too small and people aren't interested in getting a long term maintenance customer or referrals. I am at the intersection of I-95 and Route 16, the first exit south of I-90 in Newton.

I have a Carlin EZ-Gas with a fan-in-the-can for air and stainless steel chimney liner.

I welcome anyone with instruments to come and adjust my draft to spec and adjust my gas burner to correct CO. I'll pay cash if you show up :-) It won't take long and I will have the boiler warmed up for your arrival. I work a mile from the house, so I am flexible on timing.

    Any takers or recommendations?

    Funny

    way to hurt someone.

  • Steve, Bigilow oil and Needham oil are in your area, they're both reputable companies, I know techs with both.

I'm in Quincy, and a clean and tune for any thing under $200. isn't worth the trip.
  • I believe this system

is a gas conversion burner in a Weil McLain SG04 boiler do those oil companies do gas boilers and do they know how to adjust the burner?
  • burner adjustment

You know I missed that Tim, thanks for the correction, I saw Carlin ez, and I thought of an ez 1 oil burner.

Bigilow does have plumbers also, and the service manager Tony Rufo is highly skilled, and also an instructor at NEFI.

I could be totally off base, but I find oil techs do a lot more combustion testing than most plumbers and gas fitters.

    Question

Does the gas co. do it?

    I'm sorry

I'm sorry for your aggravation but you validate a point I always try to make. I am an oil guy obviously with a bias. When I worked in an area with gas I would tell people make sure if you switch there is someone to service it. There are plenty who want the install job but few around for service. If it was an oil system you could just open the phone book and be overwhelmed with choices. I hope this thread helps others who are considering switching.

    Leo:

You raise a very valid point. I guess it's time to call the gas company :-(

I obviously would prefer a personal relationship with a service company.

    But

the gas company and you DO have a personal relationship! You get your own unique number and everything!

    They love us! Every month....

    :)
  • Monty no problem,

here is the deal, I know a lot about combustion testing but would never attempt to adjust an oil system. The oil guys may do a lot more combustion testing than plumbers and fitters but they do not understand gas burners. It is not just the testing but the adjusting and knowing what level of readings you should obtain.Sadly most so called "Gas Fitters" also do not know how to test or adjust but they get a license.

Steve you will find the gas company will not do you much good as most of them do not do combustion testing anymore.

This is the problem with converting over gas from oil, there are just no technicians around to adjust the equipment. This is why when people ask me I tell them "make sure you hire a professional gas combustion technician" they will install and service. Most who contrctors who install do not do any service, much different from the oil side.
  • Steve call

Dave Rousayne at Carlin and see if he can put you onto someone to do the testing for you. His number is 413-525-7700.
