Fuel Surcharges

Maybe "go the distance"? I was thinking that if you start from a fixed location, charge by mileage or by zip code radius from you?
Say your cost basis was breaking even when gas was $2.50 a gallon. Now say it is $3.50 or $4.00, call it $4.00, an increase of $1.50 per gallon.

If your truck gets say 12 MPG average, that would add 12.5 cents per mile and you have a call 24 miles away, I would charge $3.00. If you do it by zip code, strike an average maybe?

I would make it clear that this is gas only, not wear and tear or depreciation given that the increase in gas cost is what is driving this, so to speak.

But again, the charge is the difference, not the cost of gas entirely as the basis was formerly built into your pricing I would assume.

In the end, as a consumer, I appreciate the costs borne. When I have help come to the house for various projects, (yard work, general labor), I give them gas cards in addition to their hourly rate. It may or may not cover it all, but it is only fair.

My $0.02 anyway.

    Fuel Surcharges

I have customers that are a ways away.I'm at the point where I feel I need to offset the additional cost of fuel. I don't want to pick a number out of the air, so I was wondering how do you calculate an informed amount?

    Thanks
