bouncing water line

and that is skimming the boiler. Would be worth the $ to call someone who knows how to remove the plug, and skim it rite. It could take from 1 to 3 hours to do it right. P.S. you can't clean it by draining, the "stuff" sticks to the sides as you drain it, and when you refill it all comes back on the surface of the water.

Still bouncing
Just cleaned the heck out of my boiler (WC 66 Series). Water looks clean as can be in the sight glass, coming out of the bottom drain, coming out of the cut off and the sight glass water is still bouncing more then a 1/2". I think this is killing me in terms of quickly making steam, it took over 10 min to get from the header to the new Gorton No.1 on an 8 ft main. I didn't skim I only drained, could that be my Issue? A bottle of boiler cleaner I have says skim off the Pressure Relief valve. Is that safe0 -
steamer bounce
I wouldn't skim at the safety valve. Should be done at or near the normal water line. Sounds like skimming should do the job for you. Have you checked for plugged or restricted returns, or is this boiler on a pump?

Skim port install
I got the plug out and installed a skim port but I had nothing to go by so can someone look at this and tell if its ok?0 -
I would.............
add a tee after the gate valve with the open end up. This way you can see water level as your draining it.Bring water level 1/2 way up tee while firing and adding water to get the full benefit of skimming. You don't want the water to steam, just hot, and if the water level goes above or below that 1/2 way point, the stuff you are trying to get rid of will be back on boiler surface ( skimming is just the surface). Last and very important once done plug any opening in case anyone was to open that valve. Put some never-seize on plugs for the future. P.S. start saving some $ for a new system too.0 -
A new boiler or a whole new system
Anyone one know of a good steam guy in the Portsmouth area of NH. One that will show and teach me about my system.0
