Steam ID Help - DF

This is our next steam job. We'll be replacing this with a Burnham Indepedence once a new gas service is run to this house. The existing beast is fired at 4 gph even though a detached greenhouse heated off a side-arm heat exchanger has long since been disconnected. We calculated the connected radiation at 611 EDR, even accounting for some disconnected radiators. The system is a Webster vapor system.
As the photos are hard to see, here is the information off the front of the boiler:
- Ideal Royal Heater
- 15 PSI
- Hart & Crouse Co. #287 Utica, NY
This is a 7 section boiler. Here are my questions:
- Any idea how old this is?
- What were the original ratings on this boiler?

1800 square feet EDR!
look on page 14 of this link:
http://www.heatinghelp.com/pdfs/187.pdf
It's basically a 33-inch 3-pass sectional boiler but the front is probably just a cast-iron plate with no water passages, if it's like the old Royals I've seen. I think it dates to the late 1800s or very early 1900s.
The radiator valves look like early TRVs. Betcha Tunstall could rebuild them. The rest looks like standard Webster Type R Modulation Vapor.

Glad to help
but I still think that beast was once used to heat something besides the house and greenhouse. Maybe a carriage house or garage? Such hookups were common in Baltimore's upscale neighborhoods........
If you find any rather large tees with plugged bulls, this would support my theory.
Be sure to post the "after" pics!

Here is the finished product. Brian, Bill, Mil and Joe worked on this one. We actually did this one back in November but we were there recently to clean and skim as well as add a couple Gorton #2 main vents.
The wet returns were in bad shape so we went ahead and replaced all of the piping below the water line. -DF

Curious...
Did you save that old pressure gauge? It's almost better than...! They don't make'm like that any more!
Just curious:
Why both a 67 and a probe LWCO?
Why not expand the risers in the way up, before the elbows of the drop header?
Those don't look like Gorton's on the vent tree (DSC01196-2), they have a new version?0 -

scrook,
Ad Seriatim:
1. I was hoping to add the brass gauge to my collection but the owner decided to hang onto it.
2. Belt and suspenders. If you have ever seen a dry fired steamer, you will know why we use both. #67's don't always get blown down. The probe style LWCO lends an additional layer of safety.
3. Agreed, this would have been ideal. As piped, it exceeds Burnham's specs and has been steaming nicely since Nov.
4. The photos show the Hoffman 75's before they were switched to the Gortons. This is all we had when we did the job. They were changed out when we went back to skim but I did not take photos.
