good day to be a plumber

Make an aerator by stuffing a LITTLE coarse stainless steel wool into the spout opening far enough to be out of sight. It has to be coarse, it has to be stainless, (or brass if you can find it), and it can't be too much, and make sure it won't blow out. A little experimenting will get it right. Best if you go in with a secret box of "things to try" and bang around alot while you do it behind closed doors...

ok Day started off wonderful. I had some service calls with new customers both of whom were happy to have a prompt and well spoken plumber who fixed what was ailing them and was on his way. Then I got home. It appears the remodel I did last month has an issue with their new tub and shower. So I call them back and ask what the issue is. They tell me the water coming out of the tub spout has a hole in the middle. I kid you not. They want to know what I can do to fix this. A little back ground, here in MA we can only install single handle pressure balance tub and shower faucets. It is also on the second floor and has 1/2" copper supplies. So guys how does one make 2 1/2" copper pipes fill a 1" tub spout?

    tub spout

Sounds like these customers are crazy, but if you have to you can get a spout with an aerator but it probably wont match the trim and if you stubbed out with copper could be a problem. The threads are usually at the base and im not sure if they make them with a diverter. If it has a diverter look at delta pull down diverter spouts i think it may be like an aerator, sort of, its been a long time since i installed one.

    Ha.

Thats a legitimate concern. That hole in the middle makes it tickle your toes.

    One of my funniest.

This one was a doctor...had an A/S Husher (remember these?..condensing unit had legs, condenser coil at bottom, fan on top), unit was tripping the breaker. 'Ole doc put mulch bags under the unit, fan started, sucked bags up into bottom of coil, blocked airflow..the rest is history. Boy, was he mad when I gave him the bill!

It took me several reads to realize what you were saying. Jeebus. Grab the BF channel locks and squeeze the spout opening until it's 1/2".

I used to work in a drive thru convenience store (Dairy Barn for you LI-ers). Woman keeps asking if things are fresh. After the 4th item, she aks for cottage cheese. "Is it fresh?" My boss opens the container, scoops a big wad out with his finger and tastes it. "Yes ma'am." Covers it and puts in in her bag. We never saw her again :-)

Ok stopped by the holey water spout today. Turns out the wter pressure has been low for the whole house for years. Funny how now it is an issue. They have over 50 pounds pressure when the faucets are running. Could be the 3/4" compression stop on the main and the fact the main runs 60 feet to the street and it is 3/4" up to the first bathroom, now 2 and a half bathrooms in the house from the original one bathroom. no mention of water pressure before I started the work though or until I went there today.
