Anyone can tell me if Air Separators can replace chemical water treatment in hydronic systems? Most of the Commercial/Institutional hydronic system I've seen treat the water with chemicals but have no air separators.
We have a hydronic system in our Institution that has no air separator or chemical treatment of water. We are looking for the best option to protect our pipes from corrosion.

Two different things entirely.
True, some air separators, most in fact, can and do remove a lot of particulates.
Chemical treatment on the other hand can dissolve deposits, keep them in suspension, passivate the metal and scavenge free oxygen.
Once you have the air out of most systems (and this means heating a HW system to limit to release dissolved air), you can do without them. I specify air separators for HW systems especially when they will be "added to" in a phased job. But chilled water systems? I do not bother.
