Drip line Doesn't look right. It should have a drain going down. Where does it go?

    One pipe

Went to look over a new account today and find one pipe steam system. Thanks to Dan's book I may know more about steam than anyone at my company. As scary as that sounds, I am posting some pics and would like any feedback.

    one pipe system

is that check valve in the return really necessary?when i had one on my system it was a band-aid masking a return piping problem.another reason to keep that pressure low!!
is the radiator valve closed in the picture--a no-no i think.all your condensate will end up in the radiator instead of where it belongs!
i only see one pressure control.there should be a vaporstat and a high pressure limit on the SAME CLEANED/REPLACED pigtail together with the 30 psi gauge[required by code] and a low pressure gauge from gaugestore.com.low pressure[4-12 oz.] is the key to comfort and economy.
i hope that 5 gal can next to the old girl is not thinner!
you may need one,or several new vents on the mains.one on the radiator is my favorite hoffman adj.
is the water, and sight-glass clean?is the waterline really red or is that red-eye from the camera.?
looks as though there may have been overfilling and subsequent dumping of water judging by the rust stains on the cabinet.when all systems are adjusted without deviation according to the boiler manufacturer you can probably turn off the auto fill.
speaking of manufacturers instructions ;is the steam supply and return piping installed [no matter how many years ago] as they specify?
    good luck nbc

There are two pressure controls. The second one is on the other side of the boiler. As far as the radiators, the in-house guy got tierd of the spitting air vents so he has installed bleeders in some as shown in pic 15.

    Pic 15?

    that one didn't get attached......

But in pic 18, we see two returns tied together about 18" below the vent on one of them. Is that tee above the waterline? If so, that could cause some of the spitting. All drips from steam mains must drop below the boiler's waterline before being teed together, otherwise steam can jump across the tee and up into the other drip.

I would also check the rating on that relief, does not look to be the right size, I would expect a bit bigger of a relief. I was wondering if the tees in 13 and 18 were plugged off where they had vents before? maybe out on 90's and nipples? And ditto to the other suggestions. Enjoy as it will feel nice when it is humming away in Febuary with no spitting.

The safety relief valve is piped outside. The in-house guy said the state boiler inspector wrote it up last year when it was dripped into the pit. That is the pit that I believe the original boiler sat. The Weil McClean MG3-5 is not in the pit.
