Flame Efficiency

your boiler ran ALL the time, it would be 79% efficient, or thereabouts.
Seasonally, it's probably more like 55% efficient (or 65% inefficient depending upon your point of view...)
Replace it with a high efficiency piece of equipment and reduce your fuel consumption by around 40 to 50%.
I've tested the flame at the face of a ceramic radiant heater, and found the "flame efficiency" to only be around 65% efficient, but 100% of the heat goes into the room.
It's a numbers game.

Flame Efficiency
I'm confused about the difference between flame efficiency and AFUE. I had my boiler serviced recently and the tech said the flame efficiency was 79%. Is this any indication of how effcient the boiler is? I have an old coal converted to oiler boiler, which is probably 40+ years old. I find it hard to believe that my system could be anywhere near this efficient. Is there any way to determine the overall efficiency of my system? i'm looking to replace the boiler and am trying to determine how much $$ I would save by increasing efficiency.0
