converting 2 pipe steam heat to hot water heat

We are renovating our home on Long Island and are trying to keep expenses down. In order to do this and to keep all existing radiators, associated pipes etc. and to avoid the "baseboard" look and/or replacing the old radiators with newer ones, can we convert the existing 40+ year old steam boiler system(that needs to be replaced) with a new hot water boiler system. Thank you.

ANYONE REALLY KNOWLEGEABLE ON STEAM HEATING SYSTEMS

AFTER READING MY PREVIOUS THREAD AND DOING A LITTLE HOME WORK, IT APPEARS AS IF THE IDEA OF CONVERTING IS NOT AN OPTION. THEREFORE I ASK, CAN ANYONE REFER ME TO A PLUMBER WHO IS FAMILAR AND VERY GOOD WITH STEAM HEATING SYSTEMS...I LIVE IN NASSAU COUNTY ON LONG ISLAND.
  • I'll second that

Matt has installed a brand-new steam system in his own house! If he can do that, he can get your system running as the Dead Men intended.

You probably have a Vapor steam system, which was the Cadillac of heating in its day and is still one of the best out there. These systems are easy to put in A-1 condition if you know what you're doing, and Matt does. Tell him we sent you.
