    Repacking Steam Valves on Radiators

Is it practical to repack valves on 80 year old radiators, or does one typically replace them? I have a valve that is so bad it shoots out steam from the stem.

    Any tips?

    I vote repacking

I vote repacking all of them. The one that is shooting steam be sure the packing nut isn't cracked.

i use teflon rope or take a 3 foot piece of teflon tape, fold it in half a few times and roll it into a rope. seems to work great for steam systems.
