Under slab insulation

If its a basement, you probably have a minimal heatloss, and the ground temp beneath the slab is probably around 50F unless your by the water or way up North. Why would you need so much insulation in the floor? I would look a bit closer at the cost effectiveness of that choice.

I would consider using the barrier - its relatively inexpensive, rolls out like carpet padding, and may provide a sufficient thermal block between the slab and earth for the minutes per hour the basement slab would turn on. Of course this assumes your not in Alaska somewhere.

We sell/spec it regularly on snowmelt systems where there is no idling involved.

If you still want to put down that much foam, save atleast save yourself some labor by using creteheat. Fast and easy to use also. See pics

    Under slab insulation

We're installing a radiant job with 2'' styro under the basement slab. My question is what are the thoughts on 150 styro or 250 styro. We used 250 in our own shop several years back, but that was the only type available at that time. also because of driving on it. But this is a basement application so the load will be miniscule. the 150 is also 3 bucks cheaper per sheet so can almost save 200 bucks.
