    The rain has begun,

I've checked the basement, which is prone to a bit of flooding, I've checked the sump pump...have batteries for the flashlights and wanted(BUT DIDN'T!) to take the generator from the parental units.

The forecasters are saying up to 6" of rain, but I'm guessing a bit less watching the radar loops.

Winds are expected on the south side of the storm, and the way things look to me right now....it's going to be a fine line, with rains expected on the north side.

Any other suggestions? Dinner is cooked and ready, water is in the icebox and the cooler is full...."so I got that going for me". Chris

    All set here.

Made a big pot of Veal Bolognese sauce and bought two bottles of Barbaresco.

    We're in for the night.

Went to The German Butcher (Metzger)

loaded up on Wurst of all kinds, Chocolates for the Kinder and Bayerishe (Bavarian) Weiss Beer. I LOVE bad weather except if I lose $$$ because of it or we had a picnic planned. MY fondest memories are playing football & rugby in the mud and snow and drinking Yukon Jack in a water tight tent. My brother Bart brought my sister & I camping on New Years DAy!!!!! in VERY cold weather...after hiking for a while we found a lean to..."we don't need to pitch the tent" he said. The only way we survived that night was a blazing fire that brought the parkies in the middle of the night and a Bottle of Jack Daniels and a sleeve of frozen hamburgers (NO BUNS) that I "liberated" from my job at Burger King....Those WERE the days, my friend. Bring it on! Mad Dog

    Johnny NY....

You've got the SPIRIT ! (one of my favorites....and I met the heir to the Barbaresco family about 10-12 years ago at my Uncles old restaurant.)

The rain is coming down hard, but the tide has just shifted, and is going out....so the flooding pressure is dropping by the minute.

  • Been there, done that

didn't bother to buy the t-shirt.

In Baltimore we had a lot of rain and a bit of wind, and that was about it. Unless Hanna intensifies you'll probably get pretty much the same.

Ike is the one to watch- look out N'awlans!!

Cool weather site to track the storms on

    www.stormpulse.com

I agree Steamhead, looks like Ike is lining up perfect to force another evacuation of the Big Easy. I feel for those poor suckers down there. I'll take the occasional total white out blizzard any day of the week and twice on Sunday instead of a 'cane and FEET of rain. Ike could cause a little bigger hit on Gulf oil production than Gustav. He, by the way, just blew over us Thursday and dropped about 1-1/2" of much needed rain.

We got about 6" here in Western CT. And the news had everyone around us looking for tornadoes. Some river and street flooding, but not too bad. Of course, the next day it was all gone and the sun was out.
