Hi,
The best method I find is using a good jig saw with a metal cutting blade. Easier to controll than a sawsall and less probability of breaking blades.

Getting rid of old oil tank
About 5 years ago, the original oil tank im my basement started leaking. I had a new tank installed outside, and the oil from the old tank pumped to the new tank.
In order to remove the old tank, it has to be cut up and taken out via an narrow root cellar stairway. Apparently the tank was placed in the basement before the floors were closed when the house was built.
What is the best method to cut the tank into manageable sections? (I'm thinking cut it into four pieces) I have angle grinders/cut off wheels, but I don't think all the sparks will be a good idea.
Sawzall?0 -
sawzall
pack of blades, and ear protection
A die grinder will take forever.0 -
My method
is to hire someone else to do it. :P WW

oil tank
Stand the tank on end for a week or so .All the sludge and sediment will fall into the bottom. then use one of the bung holes on the middle of the tank with a sawszall and cut horizontally around tank. Use eye protection also.I'll probably be doing this one soon0 -
Looks Like.......

Use an air chisel
Like they use in an auto body shop. It's a handheld air hammer with special sheet metal cutting chisel blade. Makes a hell of a racket, but will make quick work of slicing up the tank (virtually no risk of sparks either, even the sawzall will have sparks back in the motor housing)0 -
Realtor
Lots of potential for renovations.
