not a virgin anymore

Thanks for the compliment Keith. My F & T's will be hooked up about 2" above the water line as per manufacturers specs.

The burners are Powerflame burners. I got the jackets on today and mounted the burners and controls. I will post more pics tomorrow as I left the camera home today.

    biggest i have ever done

I posted some pics of a big steamer job I'm doing in a school in Brooklyn on a different thread but I decided to start a new one.

Each boiler is 1.2 mil btu's and it is a 2 pipe system. This is the first job of this magnitude that I have ever undertaken. I feel with the help of the wall and my copies of LAOSH, I can do anything.

Each boiler has 2 4" and 1 3" risers that I piped into a 6" dropped header that eventually tie into a new 8" header. I used screw fittings because the installation booklet said that screw fittings would be better to handle expansion. Because this is my first really BIG job, I tried to stick to the manufacturers recommendations to the letter.

I have posted some pics that I want you steam gurus to critique. Even though it is my first time, I don't want you to be gentle. Anything you guys see that you think I should do differently, please let me know. I ama big boy. I can handle it.

P.S. Someone in the other thread titled their pictures "Gurley Steamer" I've decided to title my pics "Manly Man Steamer.

what are those big gate valves for?will anyone ever turn them?
all looks nice.did you have to manhandle all 22 sections [x 750 lbs.] by hand down a narrow stairway like my boiler PB 211A ?
are both boilers operating at the same time;or is one a backup? if in tandem, it's possible you may be able to cut one out when you get up to the low pressures these systems work best at.nice job--nbc

The valves are there to isolate each boiler. They work in tandem but if one should go down, it can be shut down while repairs are being done.

The sections were manhandled down a narrow staircase but luckily for me they were carried down by others in the shop. When I started the job, the boiler sections were already together.

Nice pipe up job, question or 2

What was the old boiler, a big ol firetube boile or large cast iron?? If so, how are you handling the excess condensate that use to be stored in the large old vessel now that the new boilers have much less water content. Just wondering. Tim

    Nice job

    The blocks already assembled? Excellent!

Nice piping job. Are you connecting the connecting the 2 boilers below the waterline? In the past with 2 steam boilers I always installed F&T's above the water line to deal with spill over like I see in your pictures.

The last tandem I installed with a common 2" line between the 2 boilers below the water line. Let's see how that works. We installed the threadolets in the event of disappointment.

What are you firing into them?

    Goog Luck,

    Keith

    more pics

I thought I would post a few more pics to show the progress of this school building steam job.

I got the jackets on yesterday along with the burners and the controls. I'm waiting on the backordered PS-802 LWCO that I am installing as an added safety precaution.

I started piping the receiver today. In the pics I have my pipe resting on top of 1 1/2 kindorf that will be strapped to the floor. Tomorrow I am taking junior with me to install all the kindorf straps.

    Kindorf is King

    Billy,
Nothing looks better than a black pipe fit out, looks great!

Why did you twin the condensate pumps together? The bull headed tee may cause some velocity issues.

What series Peerless are they? The headers look excellent.

    thanks keith

Thanks Keith. I twinned them together because this is a job in a school. The custodians are in and out of that room all the time. Because all the piping you see in the pics is on the floor, I wanted to keep everything as tight as I could without putting a roadmap of pipe on the floor. If you noticed, none of my unions are on the floor. I prefit everything ahead of time so I would be able to put them where I did. I figured even with all the kindorf and the straps, constant traffic walking over the pipes would cause a union to possibly get loose. I am going to make a kindorf bridge when I'm done so no one will be stepping directly on the pipe.

I finished most of the receiver piping yesterday. I'll post more pics when I put new batteries in the camera.

    update pics

I pretty much finished the receiver piping except for the loop vent and domestic water makeup. I had 60' of 2" pipe when I started but I picked up an additional 20' "just in case." Good thing I did. I cannot believe it but just that return piping took all 80' of pipe. I will now have to pick up more 2" to finish the piping in the meter room.

I posted more pics of the almost completed return piping. All comments, pro or con are welcome.
