Salem is a great place in October, but may be difficult to find lodging. This is Salems Peak Tourist time. If you can get there, and find a place to stay, get on the scenic Trolly line it is one price for all day, this history is great, spookys are fun too. Camping Winter Island Park is nice. can also check www.salemwib.com.
If you cannot tell I like the place as a close get away.

Going for a weekend in October

Anybody been there in October? Looking for recommendations for Food, Drink & Fun. There is even a spooky cruise. Thanks!

    I have one.

DON'T DO IT !!!! My best advice.

Rick, honestly I would double think that one. I used to live just on the "other side" of Salem while working here on the Gold Coast, and October means NOTHING BUT TRAFFIC!!!. With the new courthouse project and all the other puckered sphincters already there....it's going to be a flipping parking lot.A 20 minute drive goes to 1 and 1/2 hours between Oct.1 and 31th.

October is a great time to see The Cape of Cod!Save the Salem trip for sometime in June or July, when there is parking and the traffic isn't such mayhem.Trust me.

This year is going to be particularly bad with all the traffic projects going on. Even in July, the time from 128 to downtown Salem (6 miles tops!) was over 1 hour, and it's just going to get worse. Chris

    But Chris...............

What if he drives a broom? He could fly right over those traffic jams.

    Rick,

I would have to agree with J.C.A.. I used to live in Salem while getting my MBA at Salem State. I was a part time bartender at the Salem Beer works and it is an absolute nightmare in October. Everyone and their brother move in for Halloween. If you decided to brave the congestion, there is allot to do (Witch tour, Salem Museum, Witch museum, Beer works…), my recommendation is to call the Hawthorn Hotel and see if you can still get a reservation (probably booked). It is in the middle of town (on the common) and a great historical place to stay.

    I Agree, But....

There IS something about Salem in October that's just not found in the other months (and I've been there in about every other month that doesn't snow). However, I go down in early October, and that's a little better. Stay away from late October, right before Halloween, though....that's just too much.

Go through the House Of Seven Gables, if you're a person who likes literary stuff and/or old houses.

And call me crazy, but I love the Pirate Museum. Most people think of Witches when they think of Salem, but they have an awesome pirate history, as well.

    graveyards

I moved to the west coast a few years back but lived in salem forever. The freaks all come for the 31st, they can't be seen in a mirror always have a snake around there neck or a spider crawling on them. Go to the graveyards at night and make sure you wear black.
