We don't see the Baxi in our area but combustion analysis is part of every startup we perform on Munchkin, Ultra and Prestige boilers, every startup.

Combustion Analyzers (Does anyone use them)
I hosted two different open houses over the weekend and watched two different contractors finalize their boiler installations. (Baxi Luna combi??) After they were done I asked at what point is the combustion analysis done.
The response was just about the same from both guys. The settings are preset and does not need to be touched.
Shouldn't one be done anyway just to be sure? I am thinking of asking the contractor back to check. Am i making a big deal of this?

Combustion specs are MIA
A quick glance at a Baxi manual on line showed nothing regarding burner set up with an analyzer. It gave quite explicit instructions for setting gas pressure on both high and low fire but that's it as far as burner tuning. Parameters for O2, CO2 and CO were nowhere to be found so an analyzer would be of little use other than to check the numbers to establish a baseline for burner operation. We do that as a matter of routine on installs and leave the original numbers on the appliance and on our service/installation record. Whenever we get called back we have a "normal" reading which we can reference. It helps to see if anything has changed over time.0 -
A combustion analysis
should be done on EVERY new installation whether the manufacturer sets parameters or not. There are basic guidelines for every gas system which a professional should know. If they do not then do not let them do any work for you and do not let them touch your equipment. A liscense is basically a liscense to kill when proper knowledge of what you are doing is missing.
Equipment never has and probably never will come factory adjusted. IF YOU DO NOT TEST YOU DO NOT KNOW!!!0 -
You should
fire both those installers RIGHT NOW. They do NOT know their business. Do the same with any contractor who refuses to use a digital analyzer on EVERY job.
I wouldn't bother trying to make the original installers do the analysis. Have someone else do it who knows what they're doing.
Even though the specifics don't appear in the I&O manual as Steve points out, an analyzer will establish a baseline and make sure the unit is operating safely, i.e. not making CO.
