full bore zone valve

is comedy! :D
As for the valves, for low pressure-drop 2-position operation, we normally specify full-port ball valves with a motor actuator. Belimo offers these (also the have neat characterized ball valves for more proportional control).
Many ball valve manufacturers (Conbraco/Apollo, Watts, Neles-Jamesbury) offer models or adapter kits which can be fitted with an actuator.
Still, if you have a one-source supply for the entire assembly, that is where I would go. But in a pinch, if you have a ball valve already installed or on the shelf, you can usually get something working well for maybe less cost and hassle.

full bore zone valve
I'd like to get a full bore 1 1/4" zone valve. Anyone know of any?0 -
I've seen 1.25 White-Rogers
The 1300 series with the rotating stem will open about as wide as anything out there.0 -
Just what I was going to Say
The friction loss on the 1 1/4 inch valve is equal to 7 feet of 1 1/4 inch tubing. Just about nothing.

So does that mean I shouldn't be too concerned about the bore opening being too restrictive?0 -
Caleffi
Caleffi makes motorized ball zone valves in 1" with a Cv of 13. You can't beat Caleffi quality either.0 -
Thanks, I hadn't heard about these....NM

WHITE RODGERS 1361-104
Would the 1-1/4" WHITE RODGERS 1361-104 with a cv rating of
42.2 be considered to have low restriction flow?0 -
Cv
Your head loss in feet with a given Cv rating can be calculated with this formula.
Head Loss (feet) = (1.52 * gpm / Cv)^2
So at 20gpm, the head loss through a valve with a Cv of 42.2 would be 0.51 feet. At Cv=13, the head loss would be 5.5 feet. Which valve you choose depends on the flow rate and what you are controlling.0 -
yes, very low
We used them at Sea World until the baby Harbor Seals escaped out thru the zone valves!0
