can pose a challenge. I've ALWAYS used just plain old channel locks. In the worse case scenario, I spray them (the caps) w/ w-d 40, tap them all around (without dinging them) to work in the wd and grab them top to bottom with channel lock and begin to wiggle them. Sometimes I have to regrip the caps side to side and wiggle it that way. Once they start to move you pretty much got it made. AFTER THEY'RE OFF, I use steel wool to clean the tube ends and inside the caps. If the tubes are bad I'll use emory and as mentioned a dab of never seize. If they dont move immediately, do something else until the wd soaks in giving them an occasional tap and try again. I've never had a problem with this method.

I was cleaning a certain hot air furnace today.what i have is two tubes right and left to no avail them caps were not coming off tried a pipe wrench claw hammer they were tight why does a mfg. make a product hard to service?? I complained to a rep. at a trade show promised to mail me a few caps so if i pryed them off I could replace them they never came. I know one thing this serviceman will never install one. If thats not enough they made the air filter an odd size hard to find sorry had to tell someone. royboy0 -

grab a torch
heat teh cap..whack it..llet cool, pipe wrench twist..so far it works everytime.
One reason I switched to Olsen furnaces..the new caps have a high temp gasket that stops the cap from doing exactly that.0 -
mm torch
well I must say I never tried that may go back and do it shouldn't have too. A furnace, boiler or any thing needing service reg. should be easy to get to.I see thier parent co. woke up have you guys saw or is it seen the ones you just push the clean out opening on a hinge type thing on the famous tube. they get a staples EASY BUTTON for this model. royboy0 -
If and when you get them buggers off, coat both inside of cap and outside of pipe with anti-sieze. makes it a little easier next year. My old company did a lot of work on these furnaces and this use sop to do. Good luck.0 -
I aways carry a 4inch grinder with a thin cutting wheel, cut a slot and use your screw driver to remove them. if your worried about the slot in the cap a little furnace cement can be used. I use the cutting wheel to take metal pipe fittings off boilers, havn't used a wrench in years.0
