Programmable thermostats for cast iron radiator heat?

Ummm, I'm not a plumber of HVAC person, just a homeowner who wants to know if there are programmable thermostats that work with hot water radiator heat (my husband tells me it's a closed loop in series)? The house was build in 1930. We live in Minnesota. Our boiler/furnace is run by natural gas. Should we consider a new furnace?

Any programmable t-stat will work with your boiler, but standard t-stats are 'dumb' as they allow the heat to over-shoot the desired temp, and $$$ is spent on over-heating the house. You should look into tekmar products, starting with basic outdoor reset and the top end being a control that anticipates the room reaching the desired heat and will not allow the system to pass that, while using outdoor reset to compute the absolute minimum water temperature needed to accomplish that task. That is the tekmar tn-4 system, and is fully programmable for your schedule.

Something very simple is the tekmar 512 tstat, install read the setting adjustments and enjoy.0
