\"Your Nagging Wife\" Advertising

come on folks I live in mass. we now have many women who can relate to that add now. at least no one is defending the children asking for money comment.
Cost is what you spend , value is what you get.

    Peerless Purefire Boiler

I am down with a cold today so I am catching up on some reading. Some of the recently released trade publiciations are featuring this ad for the new Peerless Purefire boiler.

I was laughing out loud on this one and my wife thinks it is a marketing disaster.

How many single moms or responsible wives out there making the decisions for boiler replacements?

    This is new from Peerless

I know contractor pricing has not yet been released, but I'm have not heard if/when they are discontinuing the OEM boiler from HTP.

    Speaking of wives

    Paul:

If you are catching up, check out our billboard survey and let us know which ones (including 'My Wife is Hot') you like the best.

It is under 'survey says' at our website, www.achrnews.com.

    Um... at least one.

I am making the decision! My house, my snowman going out of service after almost 100 years, my meetings with contractors to get bids and screen out the hacks... and I'm the one who read the Lost Art -- twice!

Though it's true, I have solicited advice from you all, and you do appear to be 99.99% men.

And it's also true, that I've convinced HIM to pay for it.

    Angela, 99.99%? I actually am 100%! :)

Anyone not a pro who reads The Lost Art twice, let alone once, has my respect. Taking charge too, I admire that.

That "nagging wife" ad, IMHO, will lose more customers than it would gain. My Susan alone would veto that boiler choice, even if it was the best one made. Might as well say that it does not malfunction once a month....

The person who came up with that ad is sleeping on the Cosmic Couch, I bet. And it is a "he".

    Thanks!

Well you know, I had to read the Lost Art twice to understand half of it. And I will be reading some sections again (and again). It's become a heating-season-is-a-comin' habit as I ask myself what I can do to save money. (Still plenty, unfortunately.)

Incidentally, this book was given to me by a (male) neighbor who said he thought I could get more out of it than he could. He kind of gave up.

Funny aside: last fall when I started working at my restaurant, another waitress surprised me by saying that she and her (also female) roommate had spent the day insulating their steam pipes. It only took us about a minute to share a high-five as we realized We [both] Got Steam Heat!

It ain't only boys buying these books!

    Ontogeny recapitulates Phylogeny...

...or so said Haeckel or Darwin. What comes around comes around again, and for some sort of purpose. This ad is a takeoff on the early advertisements for the first oil-fired burners and automatic boilers in the 1920's-30's. Take a look in Dan's library.

Still a lousy add, IMHO. Do people really buy these boilers?

    What guy could confuse

"nagging" for constructive criticism? Not me boy. No siree bob. I'm grateful for my wife's input. You betcha. Brad's comment about being 100% male also got me thinking. I'm in the club by the way. Sometimes I feel 110% but that's mathematically impossible. I saw a bumper sticker the other day saying "REAL men go to chruch," and it got me thinking. The term REAL men infers that there are false men out there. Who are these guys? Are they androids? Are they hermaphrodites? Who get's to say who the real men are. I think we need a new Government agency to clear this up. I can only think of one small characteristic that defines men. (Well not soo small.) BTW whoever put that in the ad is a moron at best. It's offensive to REAL men. :) WW ps; Feel better Paul

  • Perhaps OK for a trade journal, but certainly not Better Homes and Gardens <:0

Maybe, "Kitchen sink clogs at Christmas."

I love your attitude, Wayco Wayne!

Honestly, I don't have much of a problem with this ad: it's cool because it's retro. The nagging wife is a cliche that gets really annoying in the middle of a fight when you are accused of being a nag (because he can't take constructive criticism!!!!), but

Maybe they mean 'real' as opposed to those artificial 'men' that you pick up at the shop with the covered windows and the "Must be 21 to enter" signs on the door...?

*snerk!* You may be able to depend on your nagging wife, but if she's nagging you that much, she obviously can't depend on you *snigger* Hoo boy, what a silly ad, doesn't even tell you anything about the product. And yeah that guy does look like Bob Eubanks o.O *shudder*

    Hee hee hee

"sleeping on the Cosmic Couch"......I love the way your mind works, Brad.

Hey, I don't think this ad is any different than 95% of the commercials on tv that indicate that every father/husband in the known universe is a bumbling useless idiot who can't even find a can of soup in his own house, let alone a can opener with instructions on how to use it.

What? Can opener? Aren't they all pop-tops now?

    hehe

    Sexism

I can't believe that ad made it off the drawing board. At least they didn't mention putting lipstick on anything... ;-)

    Don't Panic

I know it's cruel, but some of them still don't have pop tops, but that's okay, because you have options:

    Option 1:

If you're married, ask your nagging wife to open the can (and cook it, if you need it cooked).

    Option 2:

If you're not married, reach into the drawer next to the dishwasher and pull out the menu from the pizza place.....wait, forget that....you never put it back last night...it's either on the counter, next to the phone, or it's under the other pizza boxes.

    Option 3:

You have them on speed dial.
