I boiled my air vents

and I can blow air through all of them. However, a few tongues broke off-- does this mean the vent is broken? If you stick the tongue back in, will that work, or do they have to be attached inside?
I am worried that I may have boiled them too long. Some silver came off for example. After reading about vents in The Lost Art, I am afraid I could have damaged the float mechanisms. and it also seems, from that discussion, that I won't be able to tell easily if they work, since they'll probably all work at first.
Advice, please! Thanks, Angela

Boiling cleans off any mineral build up
Reinstall the valves clean the threads on the radiator with a 1/8 pipe tap). Stick tongue back in if they hold. If not replace. Build up the system if they leak steam replace. You will hear a leak.
I recomend a good adjustable valve. I prefer the Hoffman 1A. Nice looking well made, float type and slow venting, and they last. There was an error rendering this rich post.
