Newer Refrigerators

Aside to Constantin VanWinkle (sp?). I know you had quite a bit to do with new frig standards, and something definitely helped.
Hurricane Ike passed directly over Swampeast MO. Hard for me to call it "remnants" as the damned thing still had an eye and I watched through wide glass doors as the wind literally reversed direction over about an hour and a half. Not unusual for us to have lots of rain after a Gulf hurricane, but I've never seen anything like this--nor had any of my much older neighbors.
MASSIVE power outages in this area. I was out of power for about 36 hours. Did not open any fridge or freezer. Ice in the "new" (about 4 years) side-by-side was still intact and barely stuck together. Only thing thawed were the "Icee" popsicles--even the ice cream was still fairly solid. Older (about 20 years) upright freezer in the garage is a disaster zone--this year's good crappie and bass frozen in water is ruined. About half of a prime beef loin is nearly ruined as well. Will be eating beef exclusively for a while... REALLY old (1930s?) fridge/freezer in the basement got a complete defrost--glad it only contained soda, beer, pickles, pickled peppers, extra ice, etc.
