Steam Boiler Water Capacity

I am removing an American steam boiler and replacing it with a Peerless Steam Boiler. I have sized the boiler per Chapter Six of Dan's book.

My concern is the water capacity difference between the two boilers. The Peerless is probably 25% of the American. I don't really want the added expense of a feed water tank.

I would like to piggy back a pressure vessle on the boiler to gain capacity. I'm just not 100% sure of how to pipe it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

however i would wait to see whether you really need this arrangement

In most cases

the new boiler has plenty of water. Remember the water expands 1700 times when boiled.

If you're running too much pressure, you'll compress the steam and then you might have water-content problems. Correcting this is much cheaper and less of a service headache than installing a feed tank and pump.
