the plumbing and glycol the heating system. I would then run the heating system at the minimum temperature.

I have a customer who has a couple of houses up for sale and due to the housing market he believes they will not be sold and he wants to take them off the market. They both have big old boilers and cast iron baseboard in one. He has asked me to shut them down so he does not have to supply oil for these houses. Am I better off draining the systems down or using a glycol mix? Thanks0 -
Personally, I think that houses shouldnt be allowed to get cold and have all kinds of things shrink and then expand again when re-heated, but if he does not want to heat the houses, I would drain the heating system, and drain the domestic water pipes.
There was an error rendering this rich post.

Really not a good idea to completely shut down the heat. Mold and mildew are often severe problems--especially if there is a basement. Wall/ceiling cracking--particularly with traditional plaster--is common as well.
I believe the advice received to freeze-proof the plumbing and heatings system and then keep the heat on very low to be the best.0
