Tankless coils on steam boilers

We have a Burnham steam boiler with tankless coil. It is 32 years old, still works great. Would like to know is there a way to flush out, also get rid of any lime / scale buid-up in the coil so it is as it was when it was installed ? We have municipal water so it is not hard water, like well water with a lot of minerials. It is good quality water. Would like to flush and clean coil with-out the use of acid's which could affect coil and / or pipes. Any help would be greatly appreciated . Thank you for your time . Frank at: Franklin3@verizon.net

flushing coil
Flushing a coil that old is a gamble, but I seen old timers do this (so have I a couple of time). All you need is connections to connect a small pump, a 5 gallon bucket of hot water and a 1 lb. box of salt. Set up a continuous circulation out of and into the bucket. Amazing how much stuff comes out. Otherwise, it's chemicals that could eat thru thin copper. Changing the coil may be the best solution. IF you decide to flush, just make sure a replacement coil is available. You could be with out hot water for a few days.
