You can never rely on the gauge for an actual precise temp. You need a digital thermostat with a thermocouple lead and stick it between the ridges of the flex piece that connects to the union to get a proper reading. If the temp is drifting that much you might wanna put some thermo grease on the bottom of the limit to get a more accurate reading. That doesn't sound out of line to me. There's a 240 degree safety limit in case that fails.

Does anybody know where to get an operating control for the H(P)-M2 that is rated at 165*? Approx 20* lower than the factory rated 185*. Thanks

    operating control

The only operating controls you can get from Teledyne are the 185 for the H model I believe. They're just a mirco snap switch and a spring to strap around the pipe. You can prolly find a lower rated one at Johnstone or CD Jones or some supplier. Not sure why you'd wanna do that. If you have the H model the thermostatic union opens at 140 and with a 165 operating control, it will short cycle.

The problem that we have is with the 185 the burner doesn't shut off till around 200-210 and if the zone quits calling at the same time there can be a 20-30* overshoot.

Thanks for the reply's, these units have a thermister, 1/8" mip and go into a 1/8 x 1/4 bushing into the supply tube. The 210* is 1/4" mip and so it actually shuts the unit down cxlose to the 185*. I would like to shut it down earlier. We have over 70 of these and besides the occasional overshot and normal maintenance they actually have not been that bad.
