OLD copper tank

Make it shiny again and use it for a buffer. That would look cool.

    Copper tank

I have an old copper tank that I stripping the water heater of its shell. I believe the tank is in good shape. I would like to use it in some way. Has anyone done something similar? I was thinking to add it for some storage or maybe wrapping some pex around it and insulating the take. I would use a return line before going back to my condensing boiler.

It is a 20 gallon tank. There are two 3/4" i.p.s. top connections and two 3/4" lower connections. I am missing the dip tube that was in the cold feed. I hope to replace that. I will clean and test the tank first.
  • Gallant effort Ted,

just be sure to hydrostatically test it(with water), NOT compressed-air, saw a guy do that once and he broke his leg in 3 places when it exploded!

I tried wrapping a 30Gal tank once in pex from my boiler as a pre-warmer, didn`t do much for me, perhaps you`ll have better results.
    Good Luck, and be careful!

Sounds like you tried doing the same thing Dave.
  • Ditto Ted,

    DITTO!

I'll never forget the time I was demo-ing an old mechanical room and under the insulation the 4x8 duct was COPPER! Even at 35 cents a pound I got over $300 for the scrap. I'd like to find some more of that today! ;)
