Nice, I hope a Buderus boiler went in there for back up for the Buderus solar panels also.

I also hope the roof is in good shape, I forsee a whole lot of ice damming build up as the snow melts off those babies.

Solar

In an age before the taxpayer provided the incremental incentive to go solar, and if I remember correctly, Florida, for example, back in the 1950s was more than 50% solar hot water. Over the decades, even sunny Florida turned in its solar bits for gas and electricity, in no small part for the convenience. Also, in southern latitudes prone to hurricanes, whole houses, never mind those proud collector panels, often went sailing away.
My point here is that when the price of nonsolar energy increases enough to pay back in three years the unsubsidized cost of solar, maybe then Florida will once again be more than 50% solar hot water.
Hope I don't get in too much hot water for remembering another age.

solar......

Hi Devan,
We all looked at the various systems out there, and yes, these are Buderus panels, however, before the contractor, who is also the homeowner moved forward, we went to school and had some questions answered. Listed below was an independant piece of research regarding available systems on the market today, and in particular, flat panel vs, evac tube on a 2 family home in Bararia which experiences similar snow load conditions to Central NY http://www.buderussolar.com/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=b7fckXHyFkc=&tabid=285&mid=1042 Let me know if you can't cut and paste, I'd be happy to send it to you.
Thanks

solar........

Hi Wayne,
Twelve Buderus 4.0 flat panels in two, six panel arrays; closed loop, heating all DHW, the pool as well as a significant portion of the space heating load. The bonus of the pool is that it will act as the dump zone as well. There is a Buderus PL750 tank in the solar system, a Buderus oil fired boiler as well as a Buderus indirect. I am going from memory, but I believe there are 4 hot water zones and we are discussing removing all the fixed speed circs and using low power consuming zone valves(Danfoss) and the Wilo Stratos Eco for the system circ. Additionally, we are researching an inline btu meter to moniter the system from startup. Thanks Tom

Tom

Thanks for the response. I went to Buderus solar training also, and received a copy of the report.
I guess the evac vs. FP debate will forever go on, just as the circ vs. zone valve debate and the flat rate vs T&M.

Tom when you say space heat, is it radiant or HWBB.

Nice looking panel job, I wish the owner many years of enjoyment with the system.
