with a Uni-Bit. Just use a valve enclosure. I have even cut a hole in the front of the cover to meet the need of the job. -Greg

looking to see
if anyone else has tried installs with trv on individual hwbb loops. If so, what is out there as far as trv's, (danfoss?) how did they mount to the baseboard, etc.

When you say
"HWBB loops", I assume you mean a room or circuit in parallel and not in series with other zones, correct? Otherwise one valve kind of ruins the party as you know.
For concealed valves, it is clear that the sensing element has to be outside the enclosure. Usually this is done by using the remote capillary types with both sensing and setpoint adjustment installed nearby, perhaps low on a nearby wall or up an (interior) wall away from the element. Most capillary tubes are limited in length so don't get your hopes up.
The second way is to have the setpoint adjustment on the valve head itself and the sensing BULB located along the floor in the baseboard inlet air stream.
Some, such as Macon, have dual purpose heads and sensors. You can install the sensor/setpoint adjustment in one unit and if that does not sense correctly, the sensing bulb can be extended further.
The last way which very few do these days is to use the full on-valve head but extended through the enclosure sheetmetal. A Greenlee punch makes a nice clean hole. Few do this because getting the head and body to line up takes more luck and patience than most have. If off by 1/8" it is off forever. Still, that detail is persistent in the diagrams....0 -
Thanks Brad
Yes, individual runs, such as home runs to HWBB.
Thanks for the info, I may try the remote capillary tube, I think somewhere I had seen a control head mounted to the enclosure, but just from the looks of it as you mentioned, not something I want to mess with.

My TRV's
Not easy but doable, to cut the hole through cover of slant fin baseboard cover. This is the best of the 3 that I have installed. Used hole saw to cut out circle, not the best tool to use. 13 & 15 are the same with cover more centered.0 -
Thanks Ernie!
They dont look like they stick out too far.
Maybe a white/pvc escutcheon to clean up the hole a little.
I may have to experiment after all. I have some old baseboard around, before I do the real thing.

You might want to check with Slant Fin. A TRV friendly end cap might be available. A friend in the company told me a few years ago that he was doing his best to get such into production.0 -
Frendly end Cap
Mike this is fine if the trv is located at the beginning of the of the run, however I have one that comes up in the middle of 16' span turns right to the end and reverses over the top of the baseboard for the 16'run. This sticks out like a sore thumb if it is not centered, left to right and top to bottom. Of course you could hide it by putting a piece of furniture in front of it.0 -
Hard to argue with that, Ernie
Nice and neat- neatest I have seen. I stand corrected on that being the tough way- you at least make it look easy!0 -
