two pipe steam

a shutoff valve on the return of each radiator as well as on the supply, this would be the "two-pipe, air-vent" system. You will probably find that all the radiator returns drip into the wet return.
This system was the first attempt to eliminate the counter-flow in the pipes that we find in the one-pipe system, and give some degree of temperature control at each radiator. It left something to be desired, and this led to the development of the various Vapor systems.
The important thing to remember with this system is- keep the pressure LOW! This means use a Vaporstat instead of a Pressuretrol. Vent the heck out of the steam mains so the steam distributes quickly on no more pressure then you can produce with your lungs.
If you find that this system has dry returns, do NOT vent them! On this type of systems the dry returns would handle water only, not air as we find on Vapor systems.
