Boiler cleaning before photos
I am trying to prepare for an expensive heating season.
This is a Burnham Gas boiler. Tim "the gas guru" is on vacation so I'll post here and maybe your answers will apply to oil fired boilers as well.
Attached are photos of the boiler and the built up stuff on the pins inside the boiler. How dirty is this boiler? I doubt it has ever been thoroughly cleaned. Any guesses how big an improvement cleaning will make in performance? What is your recommended brush for cleaning?
As you can see there is approx. 2" of space between the sheet metal shell and the insulation inside the boiler. Also there is very little insulation between the top cover and the boiler. Will adding insulation help improve efficiency? Will my heating/plumbing supply house have the correct insulation - I assume this requires high temp insulation.
Thanks!

Clean the boiler.
The insulation is just simple fiberglass.Steve from Denver, CO0 -
