Uponor Tool Depot

A note about Uponor's Tool Depot. This is where you can send in your cordless or air driven expander tool for repair. They are totally awesome! Not only did they repair an old cordless tool for me at not cost, I sent in one of the old original air tools that quit working. They did not repair it, they sent me a brand new updated model! At no charge! How cool is that?

Thank you Uponor!

Used to be that way about their drills and power tools, if you used their anchors and products. If you think about it Uponor has made their expanding joint line very proprietary as it is one of a kind. By keeping their expanders in front of you and in working order they are insuring the use of their superior products.

Right now I drive abour thirty miles out of my way to get Uponor's products. I have converted three shops to there products and I have never been let down by there products or their warranty. Only mistake they made in my eyes was the John Barba issue. John, however like most quality people has landed squarely on his feet with Taco.

I just cringe when I see crimp fittings on some of the jobs I do. We run all our heat lines with the Wirsbo style fittings and the plumbers move in and mess the job up with their crimp stuff. Why anyone would waste their time with that stuff is beyond me. It looks bad. And some of the tubing I have seen is such poor quality that you can bend it in half a few times and it will break in two. Not so with Wirsbo. I think I could probably couple two pieces of it together and pull my truck with it....I might just try that.

    Loser pays

If the court system set in place a loser pays system, a lot of these law suits wouldn't occur.

Also, I have to wonder about a person that hides behind a no-name/false name.

Tim, Seems like you are full of facts. Everyone has their preferences. I do not use Wirsbo for every applcation. I use miles of Kitec too. But I have heard of problems with their tube too. They even quit selling to for domestic water. I use it for only heating and mostly for staple up jobs. Have not had any problems.

    But, back to Wirsbo...

Yes, they let go some of their good people. Like John. Stupid. And they got rid of the best known brand name for PEX in the US. Stupid. But one thing I have seen in this industry is people come and go. Like musical chairs. I see it locally and nationally.

Yes, it used to make a lot of noise. Have not seemed to have much of a problem lately since they did something with the O2 barrier.

Yes, cold weather can be a problem sometimes in an unheated house. A heat gun can help a lot.

The rings do slip sometimes, but with a little practice, not too much of a problem. Their new ring design will handle that problem.

Yes, I have had some power tool problems. The hand tool actually works faster with 1/2" and 5/8". But with free tool repair? What are you complaining about? Mine lasted for years before repair was needed. Want to know how many sawzalls I have been through in that time?

Fitting failure? Never heard of such a thing. Sounds like the brass fittings? Wouldn't that happen with any brass component if the water is that aggressive?

Here is a fact...I have never had a fitting failure or a leak that developed after the initial pressure test. I have had the tubing withstand concrete sinking and mud jacking with no tube failure. I have seen tests done at the factory that no crimp fitting or type B pex could ever hold up to.
