our 1956 arcoliner is on her 51st year and is as strong as ever, running 81% efficient (combustion). A few aquastats have been replaced and we're on our 2nd burner. she's loud as heck and burns oil like it was $0.30/gallon!

VGA125 Boiler
I have a 27 y/o Hydrothem VGA125. I replaced the hydronic seals once and replaced the gas valve and S86 intermittent pilot control about 5 years ago. Time to replace the boiler, or is there good service life left? Maybe another 5 years or so?
How are the new Hydrotherms vs Weil-Mclaine?
Boiler mever needs make-up water, other than replacing a bucket-full from flushing the LWCO once a month in heating season. Our municipal water is soft and mineral free.
Thanks!
Drew

What's the motivation?
Drew,
If you are asking how much life is left, the answer is unknown. There are plenty of CI boilers out there that are 30+ years old and still in operation.
If you are asking what the useful life span is supposed to be you are there already. I would do the research, get some pricing and be prepared. It sounds like that's what you are doing now, good for you.
Is it energy conservation that sparked this inquiry?
