Venting for Oil to gas conversion

of things involved with converting an oil boiler to a power gas conversion burner. A barometric is typically used with all the power burners out there today. It must also be a double swing barometric.

The oil system must be cleaned and refurbished. The chimney must be cleaned and will need an inspection one year later due to fly ash accumulation from the gas products of combustion cleaning the chimney.

There should also have been a heat loss done on the dwelling along with a measure of baseboard or radiators.

It is a good idea to build a target wall at the back of boilers to prevent possibility of cracking the boiler if there is sludge in the bottom of the wet base boiler.

If it is a dry base boiler a combustion chamber must be built. That is an art in itself.

All the controls need to be checked for proper operation.

There must then be a combustion test conducted and adjustments made to bring to maximum firing rate and safe combustion with CO below 100 PPM air free.

  • Oil to gas conversion and vent hood

When is it acceptable to use an oil vent hood when the unit has been converted to gas? Is there anytime when it is acceptable?
  • Not sure what you mean

by vent hood??? Do you mean the vent pipe connecting to the chimney or double wall vent? Vent hoods are typically used with kitchen equipment.

If this is a conversion burner being used then you must replace the barometric with a double swing for gas.
  • Draft regulator for oil - gas conversion

When converting boiler to gas from oil with gas conversion gun. The boiler must be cleaned, the chimney lined and the draft regulator must be converted to a draft diverter.
