Slab sensor

Do I need a sensor in the slab? I am putting an addition on my house with radiation in the slab. The room will get very little solar gain, but will have a gas fireplace. I am wondering the best way to control the slab. I am thinking the fire place will mostly be used before the slab is fired up in the fall and after it is shut down in the spring. Can I control the slab with t-stats in the rooms? The slab will be two zones (living rm, and mud rm.)If I go with in slab sensors I assume I would need one for each zone. If I do go this route what is the best way to do this? Can I run some 1" conduit out into the slab, and then fish the sensor out after the pour?

It's nice to have
that sensor input. Some thermostats allow both air and slab sensing for fine tuning.
Typically a piece of 1/2" pex is fine for a sensor well. I like to add a piece of copper with a cap at the end for better conductivity to the slab.
Don't position it too close to the heating tube, mid way between the tubes if possible.
