union joints

I would like to take the bottom return pipes of my boiler apart to clean. There is a 4 bolt union joint there that would have to come apart. If I can get it to open up, is there a gasket that has to be replaced in there or is it just a flange or pressure fit? If there is something to replace, where do you get them? -Brent S.

flange
IT is a flange union & will most probably need a new gasket . if the gasket is not rotted or mangled just schmear it up and re-connect. replacement gaskets are available at any supply house or you can cut one yourself with rainbow packing or graphite0
