Now is the time to buy American

Look around your house, what's really made in the USA? All we could do is wave as manufacturing went to Asia...

    Boost the economy

I will always defend a person's freedom of choice to purchase what they want but now more than ever, I would hope that Americans choose to buy American-made products, especially automobiles and trucks. It is hard to avoid buying some things that are made outside of this country but take an extra minute to think about yourself and your customers. Are all of you better off when our number of imports keeps going up? Not likely.

Keep jobs here at home and keep the dollars in our businesses. That's not a mandate, just a friendly suggestion.

    It's a good point BUT

That is a good point to buy American BUT what is actually American today. Many American names but made in off shore factories.

No one from the top visits the Wall. Let's limit the scope to the title of the thread, okay?

    Another point to ponder

Why have the Big 3 auto makers (and many other US manufacturers) moved alot of business outside of the US while say Toyota or Honda has all of their assembly done right here in the states with all American labor? I say go to a flat tax rate on new goods and services only and bring all of the worlds manufacturing companies flocking to the US to set up shop! The gov't will get all the tax money it needs, people will not have to endure the nightmare of the IRS and the tax code will be extremely simple for everyone to understand. No more with holding on your paycheck!

If you are talking about HVAC products specifically, why has all the great technology come to the US from Europe instead of the other way around. The European products has forced the US manufacturers to play catch up or just simply rebadge equipment with their name on it. In todays energy quandry, as a contractor you simply must put in the most efficient, reliable equipment you can get your hands on regardless of where it comes from. If the US manufacturers want that business they will produce that equipment.

John I agree with you and have for the past five plus years bought american made products when they are avaiable across the board. Some items you just cannot find here period.Wake up people or the next job lost over seas will be yours.Do not gets me wrong a lot companies dropped the ball on quality and this is why people have bought overseas cars, boilers etc but a lot great made products are produced here it we do not give a damn about keeping our jobs here no one else will period.

    foreign auto makers

I think they assemble cars & trucks here as a marketing tool. Assembled in America is easier to swallow than imported. I read an article where Toyota is very concerned about their image here. They want to fit in to the American Economy, not appear to be taking over the auto industry here.

As to why and how the big three are reacting recently... well that's a topic for another thread. I have 2 Chevys in my fleet , but also a Mitsubishi Fuso.

    Sorry John

One thing about buying American is, who owns who now adays and where do things come from. It makes it confusing and most factories I see are vacant. I am a firm believer in "Buy American" if it in fact is American. My truck is a Chevy, my bike is a Harley.

    Old technology

    I Agree with Darin..

MOST of the Boilers/Equipment that I am Installing now are "Foreign" (Viessmann,Triangle tube,Baxi luna,Wilo,Grundfoss,Stieble Eltron,Runtal,Roth,Danfoss,PAW,Caleffi...

    (NOT BUDERUS Boilers!)

NOT that i do not want to support the American Economy !

It is the old technology and the unreliability of the US made Products that will Create problems that I and my customers do not need in my/ their lives!!!!!

Once the American Engineers put on their Thinking caps, get off of the Golf courses and behind a better reliable Product I and my customers will start buying MORE American Products....By the way ....My trucks are:An Utilimaster which i love,A Dodge with a Cummins, and a Chevy to the Levy..and i hope the Levy doesn't Break !!

Regards Richard Graves From Heatmeister. :)
  • Some of the parts....

If I recall correctly, Showa makes the Harley front end. Electrics are Japanese. Pistons come from Germany and wheels from Australia.

    Disagree about reliability

While I agree with you that the foriegn companies are more progresive I disagree with the reliability statement. We have installed plenty of B&G, Taco, Burnham, Weil Mclain, Smith, PowerFlame ,ECT without an issue. I'm sure they all use some components that are made all over the world. Isn't most of the revenue is funneled back into our economy?

It would seem with the weak dollar "Made in the USA" should be easier to accomplish.

My last two chevy and one ford

did not hold up as they should.

Sorry just not made like they use to, now we are the R & D test bed.

My latest truck is a Sprinter and my next one will be too.
I buy what little American name that makes a good product but I will not buy junk just to make American business tycoons rich.

The auto worker will make the same pay in a Toyota plant that they do in a GM plant.

    Partial import

Not everything from Europe , orginated from there.

For instance, I was told by Buderus that the flat plate solar panels being offered by them, part of it originated in good 'ol North Carolina. The low iron glass for the panels are then shipped to Germany, for assembly and then shipped back ! Of course , done as green as possible. ; )

    You're talking food & perishables

Look at clothing, electronics, appliances, high end boilers, gadgets and whatnots. They are making items American either do not want to make or it's just not profitable. Show me how to fix that and I'll be the first in line...

    World Economy

They threw out the tarriffs, saying we had to be part of the World Economy.Someone should have told them,we were the leader of the World Economy.Ford and GM don't really care, they own 49% of Honda and Toyota. Why would a manufacturer make something here, when they can make it in Mexico at 10% the cost and truck it over the border?

There are still American products out there for us homeowners

    Check it out!!!

I just had a Bobcat installed in my home. I did my homework before choosing a product. It is engineered and manufactured in the "US of A" by Slant/Fin. Probably one of the more red/white/blue products you can find out there anymore.

If you want to support American products you should be installing these and looking into the other products they have.

Keep it in the family, keep it in the USA.

    Have a great day!
    Joanne

PS- LEO we have something in common Chevys and Harleys nothing better then that. (potato, potato, potato...LOL)
