Bizarre Forest.... (ME)

But i've gotta ask if anyone has a reason why these trees look the way they do. And it's fairly obvious, based on the time honored carcasses laying on the ground that this has been going on for some time.

You will notice on some trees, a yellow sap hanging off the bottom side of the tree. That is the death knell for the tree. It has been invaded by the bark beetle.

We are going to lose all of our lodge pole pine, and many other species before this whole natural debacle is over.

What do YOU think caused these tree to contort? I asked a geologist whose specialty is land slide movement if it could have been an earth quake, and he said he doubted it. When big earth quakes hit, the snaps the trees completely off, at the ground.
