Steam System pipe hammer

Member Posts: 1
I have a LP steam heating system w/ 5" hg. vac. on the return side. A contractor piped a unit ventilator witha 12" rise in the cond. piping after the therm. trap. I assume that this will cause significant hammering problems, especially if the vacuum pumps go down. What is your opinion?

If the vac pump goes
down, the unit heater won't work at all..why do you feel you need to run a vacuum pump? 5''hg doesn't do much..just curious...vacuum isn't consistant throughout a system..if its 5 at the vac pump it may be 2 or 3 in the supply mains..this can cause hammering in itself..
