Joe Johnsen 92 Years old was............................

still doing inspections last month! Joe's was a spendid American Story. Born here, his ship-building Norwegian Kin moved back to Norway when Joe was a toddler. He returned to America in His teens with The Golden Hands of his forefathers and forged his way thru several different trades and oocupations. He was a member of my NEW YORK GUARD unit in the late 1930s before WWII and enlisted in the USN when Pearl was sneak-attacked. He ran a ship and sub design shop. He returned to raise two great boys and eventually ran the Village Bldg Dept. He was a Real Gent and smart as a whip. He LOVED America. He had an amphibious car that was one only 5 ever made and kept it in pristine condition...taking it out ONLY for parades. He had a great smile and an innocence about him that belied his stern demeanor. I'm going to miss him dearly. He was also one of the longest standing members of our Nassau Plumbing Examiners Board and was also the financial secretary for 40 years. Goodbye Old Friend. Mad Dog
