    Down ? I'm waiting...........

For the first hurricane of the season to blow into the Northern Gulf of Mexico. $6.00 here we come.

My gut feeling is that this is a momentary pause while the oil markets catch their breath. They've been on quite a run since the first of the year and investors are sitting back to take stock of the the situation and world markets.

China alone expects to be putting 20,000,000 cars on the road per year by 2015. That's substantially larger than the entire North American auto market. They are also sitting on cash reserves of over $1,000,000,000,000.00 (that's Trillion with a capitol T), most of which came from the US. If push comes to shove, they can outbid us for crude any day of the week and there's not a blessed thing we can do about it.

    Conserve, reduce, reuse.

    I think that

ever so slowly people are beginning to realize how little control there is going forward. Part of the oil companies current urgent need is to buy back stock and amass reserves of money as their reserves of oil dwindle. The standard platitudes are beginning to come out from the politicos here in Maine this summer where 80% of the homes are heated with oil, my place included. We need to (fill in blank), we need more money in the fund for oil heat, we need the magic pill.

Over the many winters there has been little money put in winterization. People want to live in converted summer camps year round but expect the tax payer to foot the bill for oil every year. But the tax payers are finding that they are in trouble with their own homes so we should see some fire in the course of a year.

You are right Steve. Conserve, reduce, reuse. There are many oportunities for the heating professionals to make a big impact. Invest once to improve the heating plant and envelope and save every year thereafter. Pour the money into the tank and it is gone overnight.

    solar conversion

Is there any way to run a steam system with solar energy or solar assist for our oil burner?

    Joel's right

but if you have A/C, you could add a solar-heated coil to that, and heat your hot faucet water with solar too. The boiler would then heat the steam radiators and the hot water tank when there wasn't enough sun.
