Chinese Junk?

The contractor we use to abate/ remove oil tanks sees a much higher failure rate ( rust through) in Chines oil tanks. I had a customer inquire about 2 new tanks this past week & he got a very good price from Orange box on the tanks. I'm trying to gey him to go Granby.
I had to suffer through the gymnastics to get to the swimming, The Chinese gymnasts are awesome.
How about those American swimmers!! 41 yr old mother as the anchor in the relay- very impressive. And how can you not root for Phelps!!

Anybody see
the opening ceremony of the olympics last night?
Pretty darned impressive.
They don't seem to have any problem using chinese manufactured stuff.
Maybe there's some other reason the Chinese manufactured stuff we get often doesn't seem as high quality.
Maybe the American businessman in between?

Quite impressive
technology and implementation. How about that LED floor!
I like the folks running around that globe and the precision of the all the dance moves. That will be a tough one to top.

Chinese
Unfortunately I see Chinese junk all the time. Iron fittings not cast or machined right, motors that last 2 weeks, appliances that fail after one week, poisonous toys, etck.0 -
China is a big place
when you stop and consider the diversity within the country's languages alone one would wonder how Hao *~/:) it manages to get so many things right *~/:)
i great deal of credit should be given to the standardization of Written Chinese language across all those languages.
if there is anything that i would like to see in China it would be the secret to having so many states regions and communities functioning as a society.
the spirit of the people of China is soaring like the Phoenix international politics can only benifit by having hosted the event.
what i see when i watch the many presentations is the effort and time that everyone has put into thier individual contribution to the Work to exemplify the very best that they can do.
really the people there seem to have something of a spirit that is likened to the joy that children "Feel" when the Circus is coming to town..*~//:)
that is very uplifting for the many hardships that the population has seen over its past ....i only hope that they do not become overly caught up in thinking that the people who visit are indicative of the economic level of other societies because envy can only lead to disappointment.
the beauty of the country and the spirit of the people is what i see ...
there is a song that says This is our homeland (jher shi women de jhia ) that nobility is exactly like our from sea to shining sea..
the people from all over the planet strive to get the chance to be in the games it would be right to keep in mind that the competitors are all exemplary individuals in the sports they represent ....i wonder how many of them have had trouble with their heating systems and found their way to the our homeland HeatingHelp.com

Big Difference
It is one thing when the Chinese government says to make it right and other thing when an American company says to make a copy of this American product but I only want to pay 1/10 of what it costs me to make in the U.S. The Chinese are indeed capable of making quality products when they are paid to do so and when the product is inspected for quality. Unfortunately those companies are the exception to the rule which is why I do not buy Chinese products. I go out of my way to not buy Chinese products. P.S. I am wearing American made underwear.0 -
Weez
I can always count on you for an interesting perspective. Charity and tolerance towards others is always desireable and you exemplified that in your post.0 -
The Olympics this year is a big spin to show that China is a civilized nation. Their government is ruthless. They kill their people for their organs and sell them. They euthanize the elderly. Make no mistake about it. They are a totalitarian dictatorship that David Rockefeller wrote about with such admiration.

And yet they somehow
manage to build stuff from super tankers to sneakers and everything in between and own so much of US government debt.
I look out my window at the new Penobscot River bridge built in three years with segment casting units built in China. These travelers supported and aligned the forms for pouring the bridge deck. Once a segment was cured, the traveler advanced to pour the next segment. All the parts for one side of the river were painted blue and the other side painted red for assembly when they arrived in the US.
Definitely a country of opposites.0 -
Fitting story
Unfortunately sad to say it was the contractors that caused the Chinese fitting surge.
At one time everyone stocked domestic fittings. Contractors kept asking for a lower price, lower price, and lower price. The distributors brought in foreign fittings for this reason, to lower their price or be competitive against others already stocking and selling them. This caused many problems as it forced many to stock duplicate items and many times they were mixed together by mistake. As they got mixed, more people accepted them and plain just didnt care. So as you can see more foreign fittings were bought to the point that the domestic fittings were hard to find. Well the domestic fitting companies caught on and partnered up after realizing they werent selling any fittings so, now they come from both sides. And thats the story of Chinese fittings, now pipe, valves, fixtures and more.
Next time you ask for a lower price, where will it come from? Cheaper made Chinese transformers, contactors, circuit boards, yes!

It's our fault
Why do we get so much stuff made in China? Because they'll work cheap. Americans don't want to pay for quality, they want cheap. Does Wal-Mart say "Always Best Quality"? No, it says "Always low prices" and turns to China to get that. And Wal-Mart's sales reflect it doing well last I saw.
So when J. Q. Homeowner beats the dealer down on price, the dealer hollers at the distributor who hollers at the factory who hollers at buyers & engineers to come up with ways to cheapen the product. And that's by buying from 3rd world countries with obscene labor laws and no pollution control. Then they wonder why their new furnace breaks in the first year!
What's the best furnace out there? Pretty much everyone agrees: Thermopride. What's the lowest selling furnace out there? Other than maybe some pockets in oil country I'd probably guess Thermopride. Homeowners won't pay for quality, except maybe in cars0 -
China
Absolutely amazing. What a world.0 -
Don't under estimate the Asians!
I am a pretty serious recreational photographer and have spent a lot of money on my gear. Out of curiosity, I went through the camera bag to find the countries of origin that had produced the gear. I am a Canon fan and most of my gear is Canon branded. Here is what I found:
The Camera bodies and lens come from Japan, except the lens cap which come from Taiwan. The battery chargers and straps come from China.
I use 8gb Compact Flash Cards capable of 30mb download/ second, made in China
Monopod and tripod - made in China
Photo Printers, Made in Vietnam
Print Cartridges, Made in Japan
Photo bag and Canon Backpack, Made in China
Dell Laptop (for photos only) Made in Malaysia
Finally... I found some photo paper made here in the USA.
Now if anyone wants to call this equipment junk or cheap (inexpensive), you need a reality check. I buy my gear because I feel it is the best and I never consider what is cheapest.
With this being said, I think they will also be able to figure out some of the low tech things in the world too. If I had a choice, I would have bought American across the board but my choice was taken away. I only hope the few US manufacturers left don't cut corners to be competitive and lose out.
Sorry for the rant, I guess looking deeper into this has not made me feel any better.

I dont think anyone really knows how bad this is going to get.

I have an idea how bad it's going to get, Tony. We'll look back a year or two from now and think how good it used to be.

Chinise
The Chinise do not use the stuff they ship here. I had a long conversation with a man from China who visited the ministry in May. He told me that they have 2 assembly lines in the plants. One for use in China which is high quality and the other that is made as cheeply as possable for export.0 -
The Chinese people are getting the worst of it. Hundreds of kids killed in a school because of shoddy construction. Tens of thousands of sick babies from drinking melamine in the formula. They are definitely not saving the good stuff for themselves.0 -
And they found melamine
in U.S. Formula a week later,1/2 ppm. But luckily we Live in the U.S.A. where the goverment cares. The FDA immediatly stepped in and..... quickly raised the acceptable standard to 1 ppm. So all the babies are safe again lol.

Thanks for the link!
Hi Jim, I take pictures of many different subjects but wildlife photos are my favorite. Great website you posted, Thank You. I am attaching a photo I took this Spring, not my best, but it isn't bad. This is Colorado's official animal. While he was posing, he never stopped chewing (kind of blurry around his mouth).0 -
Man , I want to comment
...but I'm trying to be nice on here ( or at least neutral ).0
