non working circ. pump

You could try an amprobe on the wire leads and match that with the rating on the tag. On way I usually do that is with a screwdrive on the circ motor and the other end against my ear.

    Amp probe may not work...

Most of the newer motors are low impedance, and they draw the same amperage with a locked rotor as they do with a moving armature. Two proven methods I have used is,

    1. If there is a ball valve fore or aft of the pump, close it quickly, and if you hear a hydraulic HISSsss, there is flow.

    2. Take a torch, and apply it momentarily to the pipe. Wait 5 seconds, and carefully touch the pipe. If it is cool, there is flow dissipating the heat. If it's hot, there is not flow.

Item 2 assumes you have metal pipes. If you have plastic, DO NOT USE the second method.

What makes you think its not working?

    circ. pump

i am not currently working in the field, just picking brains for future, but had a unit last winter that had a
pump that was weak and it took awhile for me to figure out why house was slow to heat ,home owner would turn down thermostat in morning, go to work ,return and turn up therm. and it would take forever to get warm again,it felt and sounded like pump was working, did reistance but not amp test, will do valve closing (if valve) and amp test next time
