One pipe steam in CT

Looking for suggestions/references. I live in Northern CT. Have one-pipe steam. Some pipes go through crawl spaces and all have a dry return until they get to the boiler area. NO main vents in the system or evidence of any. Some pipe pitch problems due to added floor layers over the years (160 year old house). Oil company just came to "Service" the boiler. They told my wife, it may be time to get new boiler because of its age. I told her I would like to install main vents first. How difficult of a job would this be? (I am an auto mechanic) And can someone give me a parts/material list as there is a good heating supply shop in Holyoke, MA where I work that I can get just about anything. Right now it takes 45-60 minutes to heat all radiators with no water hammer. Will adding main vents now cause water hammer due to the pitch problems? If there are any STEAM professionals in my area, I would be willing to hire them as there seem to be only knuckleheads up my way. Thanks.

Did you try find a professional? I found Scotland Heating in Willington, Ct. He works out of Stafford Springs. I found several others in a 100 mi radius.

Vents will help, pitching the pipes correctly will help. The company I work for does not travel and only works for their regular customers. I would love to fix it for you. I enjoy steam and a challenge, but sorry, you need to find someone else.
