Anyone got info on this?

It sounds like they're cooling the floors. Anyone hear anything more?

  • My Floors are Cool

I have been running my radiant cooling for three days straight, it's been a heat wave up here. Consider doing it in your own house, the comfort is unbelievable, it is comparable to radiant heating.

    Thanks, Bob Gagnon

  • Nice,,,

How are you handling dewpoint vs floor temp? I'm looking at a small commercial job that would be a perfect candidate and I need to examine control options. I'm already aware of the Danfoss spinoff which sounds like a very nice control but is a bit up there in the $ arena for the smaller jobs.

"Anyone got" great English, that colej ejacashun shur paed of... ;)
  • I'm removing humidity

the same way they do in a standard air conditioner, with a fan coil unit. But my fan coil is powered by well water and that's not as cold as refridgerant, so the fan coil simply has to be bigger to do it's job. I have a diagram on my website at www.BobGagnon.com

    Thanks, Bob Gagnon

  • I seeeee,

So you're not circulating well water directly. I'm going to shoot for 66* floors OR lets say 2* lower than natural floor temp on an average day. We're going to pour over existing slab (I'm thinking 3"). I can measure floor temp, today actually, and see where it's at. Then I'm thinking 45* water to HV fan coils with oversized supply and return duct for the humidity control operating on a humidistat instead of a t'stat. I need to look at a psychrometrics chart. I have a number for the uponor contact on that house. He's in Kali so he's probably just getting up right now. Stupid time zones... ;)

The oversized overextended ducts are because it is a recording studio and it must be vewy vewy quiet.
  • Still,

no solid info. DID talk to Uponor's Him Lee in CA and he says my ideas are right on. Cool the floor 2-3* below normal and run an air handler on a humidistat. He said he was not involved in the project featured at the Uponor website so I'm still looking to track that person down.

    radiant cooling

I have seen this done in a passive sense. At Michel Sales Agency in St. Paul, MN they ran 3/4" loops 4 feet under their warehouse floor and circulate the radiant fluid from the floor to the undergound loops and then back to the floor.

They use standard AC to knock the humidity down as it approaches dew point.

    Drastically reduced their energy costs.

Harold Bruner is the man to talk to about it.
