    Vaughn top performer with smell

Has anyone experienced this? I recently(7/2/08) installed a 50 gallon vaughn top performer indirect. Today I went back to the customers house to run some eff.tests and the customer complained about a concrete or mortar smell from the water every time he takes a shower! As soon as he brought up the smell I figured it had something to do with the stone lining. I told him I would do some research on it and give him a call back. I've installed many of these tanks and have never heard such a thing. Just wondering if the stone is damaged in the tank?

    Vaughn stone lined heater

    Hi Rick,
A cursory Googling of 'Vaughn water heater smell' turned up this discussion on another forum:

Maybe that will help in some way?

    smell

Could be the anode rod. Have had that issue with other products. YOu may have to change to another kind of rod. Check with the manufacturer

    We had a few

customers complain about a smell and fine powder coating their dishes and showers . This is the Burnham version of the Vaughn . I'm guessing it's some byproduct of the cement lining . We had to drain the tanks , add some dishwasher soap , refill and heat up . Then we ran the hot side of the sink till it was clean of soap . On one job it took 2 visits to flush all the sediment out , so be patient . It will run clean .

    Another reason

Not to use this product... Poor performance, leaking gaskets, too heavy to move around.

Not my first, second or even third choice fro indirects.
