Are there any 3 pass hot water boilers that can use gas or oil you would recommend?

Yes !!!!
The Solaia is our favorite. It is certified with Beckett or Riello oil burners as well as the HeatWise SU power gas burner.
Depending on where you are, you might find versions of this same boiler called PurePro, Tri-Fire, Excelsior, and the parent of them all, Biasi. No matter what the name it's still a nice little boiler. On gas, its thermal efficiency is roughly 6% better than the typical atmospheric gas boiler.
Here's a 7-section Solaia we recently installed with the gas burner, and another 7-section on oil.

Yep.
Smith 8 series and Solia/Biasi.
They all are rated for both....but consider your emitters, and ask your professional installer for their recommendations.
Maybe a Mod/Con would be the the best choice. Chris0 -
Uhhhh, Chris
the Smith 8 series is a pin boiler.... unfortunately. If only Burnham had a gas option on the MegaSteam.......

Steamhead, Your correct. I didn't want a pin type boiler.
Did you mean the Burnham MPO for hot water,or can the MegaSteam be used for hot water heat too.0 -
And I was thinking OLD time.

The only time
we'll install a residential pin boiler is if it's a gas-fired steam job, since there aren't any 3-pass residential steamers yet that come with power gas burners. This is the one remaining situation where we have to resort to a residential pin boiler. With that said, the Smith 8 is very well made.
The only 3-pass residential steamer is Burnham's MegaSteam, which is a fine boiler, and that company does know we want a gas burner option. Maybe the current oil prices will make them fast-track it..... they have to be cutting into oil-fired MegaSteam sales.....
And you're right, the MPO is the hot-water 3-pass model from Burnham. Again, a fine boiler, but no gas option yet.

Ya got me ! I missed the 3 pass thing. Chris0 -
I have been reading the posts on the wall. I considered a mod/con. But I read some posts that said a mod/con should be serviced twice a year, thats too much maintenance for me.
Are there plain condensing boilers that would give me better efficiency than a 3 pass boiler?
