    Labels

Sharpees wear off. Tie-ons loosen and fall off.
    What works?

    I like ....

Red tape on the feeds, and blue tape on the returns with a number written in sharpie, or roman numerals in black pen.

I feel your pain after having to blow through numerous tubes to find the ones that the guys ran and never even attempted to label. (We'll find all that later!) Painters tape is easily removed and seems to hold up well. I have the choice of many colors at my local hardware store.

I also got one of those Brother labeling machines.(Thanks Milne!) and I use it for everything I can. The labels hold up pretty well and look professional on legends too! Chris

    Tape

I do similar to Chris but with colored electricians tape. Rather than a Sharpie or pen I just wrap that many "bands" around the end of the tubing. Color coded and nothing to wear off. Also removes easily later if necessary.

The same label machine that prints labels for electrical wire you can feed a little extra out to accomodate the larger diameter of the pex before you cut the label. It's classy

There was an error rendering this rich post.

I put in phone systems for a living and we need to label wire for networks. We use a PTouch labeler. They have a TZ tape that has very strong adhesive, and a label that is 1" wide that is made to wrap around wire or any other round surface. The tape is laminated with a tough UV resistant covering. It would work great for labeling PEX. Just my $.002

The labeler I use is a Brother P-Touch model PT1400. The tapes are the TZ version. The tapes can be gotten at ptouchdirect.com At that site you can get alot of info on the various types of tape for their labeling systems.

    Manifolds First

We always(almost) set the manifolds first and hook up as we go. We then label each pair as they get connected and include the loop lenght for future balancing.
