baro damper and system 2000

What is the overfire draft reading with that high chimney with the burner firing? When in doubt about specifications of a system refer to the O/I manual. The flame in an EK is steady enough that even a draft of over 1.0" w.c. will not create an unstable fire or cause a poor light off.

    baro damper and System 2000

I was told that a system 2000 doesn't need a baro damper. However its connected to a 45 foot chimney that has a very strong draft. I realize that it doesn't have a lot of standby water but wondering if one should be put on. I just took the accesses door at the bottom of the chimney and the draft on this warm still day was like putting my hand near the suction of a intake of a shop vac, I have a feeling that the techs sometime just write down draft readings w/o really doing them.

    EK

does not require a draft regulator. What are the draft readings in the flue box and overfire?

If the draft is too high

then it's too high, and you need to reduce it. Even on a positive-pressure unit, excessive chimney draft WILL affect the over-fire draft.

I bet that chimney was originally built for a coal boiler. This type of boiler needed a lot of draft to pull air thru the coal bed. That's why the chimney was designed so it can pull pets and small children all the way to the roof.

Do whatever you need to do to bring the draft to EK's specs, and leave enough headroom so the draft will remain stable in cold weather when the chimney draft increases. This may require an oversized barometric.

Also, was the chimney re-lined? If not, a proper liner can help, since it will probably be smaller than the existing flue.

    Do you have

an EK or are considering one? I'd be more concerned about condensation in that chimney than excessive draft effecting an EK.They DON'T need a draft regulator, the I&O manual is quite specific about this. Why try to reinvent the wheel?EK has done their homework on this.
