Broomell system boiler replacement
Tom Maloney
Member Posts: 1
I spoke to dan at one of his steam seminars about a customer that has a broomell vapor system, and i just want to be clear on what he told me about eliminating the reciever with the big float and drop the returns to below the water line and put big air vents on the dry returns, and run a vapor stat. Should i also put vents on the ends of the mains to quickly vent the mains? Thank You

Yes
the steam mains should be well vented. Measure the length and diameter of the steam mains and we can tell you what's needed.
If I were you, I'd leave the receiver in place- it also acts as a very low-pressure gauge! Leaving it there would also eliminate some piping work on the dry returns.
If you do remove the receiver, save it for the Heating Museum.
